Practicing Being Proactive (Aka Take Your Own Parts Store with You)

3/12/24 SOLSC Day 11

We started thinking about what we are taking, just in case. This list does not include items like rain gear,  first aid kits, sunscreen, insect repellent. Yikes. I’d better stop – that’s a different list for another day.

  • Engine drive belts (2)
  • Oil filter
  • Gas filter
  • Air cleaner
  • Engine oil
  • Windshield wiper fluid
  • Step motor (a replacement motor for the automatic steps)
  • Extra water pump
  • Replacement headlight bulbs (still to order)
  • Household Batteries
  • A couple gallon jugs of fresh water
  • Bucket & tools to clean the ginormous windshield
  • Rechargeable lanterns
  • Tools and more tools
  • Fire blanket
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Telescoping ladder
  • Bleach
  • Air compressor hose
  • Tire fill nozzle
  • Dash cams
  • Leveling planks
  • A pad to lay on the ground when you need to crawl under the camper

Hm. That seems like a lot. What have we forgotten in our quest to be prepared for problems on our travels?

You know that’s what we will need…

Looking forward to walks in the woods instead of planning and prepping!

  1. Great title! My father would love this. He is Mr. Prepared For Any Eventuality. I love this. I hope to accomplish a Boston Whaler summer version of this: extra spark plugs. Extra oil. Back-up running light, etc. So many things can go wrong on the water, and for years we have dodged calamity just by good luck.

  2. Your decision to pause one list and start another reminds me so much of my own running lists that we write on our kitchen wall tiles with whiteboard markers. Right now one tile has peanut butter and a new hammer.

  3. I shake my head when you write the ironic response to your question…”You know that’s what we will need.” Isn’t that the way it seems to go?
